7 Habits I Gave Up to Lose 15kgs (And Keep It Off) – My Weight Loss Journey

I got asked recently “what habits did you let go of to be healthier?

So in today’s blog (and video!), I’m sharing something very personal - the 7 habits I gave up to lose 15kgs (that’s over 30 pounds!). These changes didn’t just shift my body - they transformed my mindset, energy, and relationship with food.

If you're stuck in a cycle of dieting, obsessing over the scale, or pushing yourself too hard at the gym, this post is for you. It's time to shift to a more holistic, sustainable, and empowering approach to weight loss.

1. I Gave Up Calorie Counting and Dieting Apps

Counting every calorie made me obsess over food and led to stress, not success. While it's important to understand what you’re eating, living in a constant state of restriction actually spiked my cortisol levels - and that made weight loss harder, not easier.

2. I Stopped Throwing Up After Meals

I’m sharing this with deep honesty - I used to struggle with bulimic tendencies. If you’ve been there or are going through it now, know this: you’re not alone and healing is possible. You don’t have to punish your body to lose weight. You can learn to love it instead.

3. I Quit Over-Exercising

High-intensity workouts like CrossFit drained me, especially when I did them for the wrong reasons. Instead, I reconnected with joyful movement like dancing, walking, and cycling - all of which helped lower my stress levels and supported sustainable fat loss.

📝 Tip: Movement should nourish your body, not punish it.

4. I Stopped Going to Bed Late

Sleep is a non-negotiable for your metabolism and cravings. Late nights used to lead to poor food choices and low energy the next day. Fixing my sleep routine changed everything - and it’s one of the first things I focus on with my 1:1 clients.

5. I Gave Up Skipping Breakfast

Coffee is not a meal! I used to rely on caffeine all morning and skip actual food - which made me crash hard later. Once I started eating nourishing breakfasts (like oats or eggs), my energy balanced out, my blood sugar stabilised, and the cravings disappeared.

6. I Let Go of the Scale and Progress Pics

The scale became an obsession - and taking constant photos of my belly was mentally draining. When I finally stopped focusing on numbers and images, my body responded better. Sometimes, letting go is the most powerful thing we can do.

7. I Stopped Relying on Food Deliveries

In Dubai, food delivery is a lifestyle. But convenience often comes at the cost of quality. Once I started cooking at home and choosing fresh, whole foods, I felt more in control, energised, and connected to what my body truly needed.
